"Creativity"Exploring and extending ideas leading to an original or interpretive product or performance "Activity"Physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle "Service"Collaborative and reciprocal engagement with the community in response to an authentic need. What part does play in Daystar’s DP program? is part of the "Core" in the DP. (In addition to CAS, the Core also includes the Theory of Knowledge course and the extended essay.) A student who fails to satisfy the requirements will not be awarded an IB diploma, even if they have met all other DP requirements satisfactorily. In addition, students must fulfill the requirements to graduate from Daystar Academy. What are the "requirements"? Students must: Engage in and reflect upon 18 months of continuous creativity, activity and service experiences Participate in at least one month-long collaborative " Project " Use the stages as a framework for experiences and projects Maintain a portfolio as evidence of their engagement with CAS Show evidence of achieving the 7 learning outcomes through reflections in their portfolio Participate in a minimum of 3 interviews during 11th and 12th grade, including a final interview in which they discuss their portfolio and reflect on their overall experience Why CAS? compliments a challenging academic program in a holistic way, providing an important counterbalance to the academic pressures found in the rest of the Diploma Program. enables students to: Enjoy and find significance in a range of experiences Actively participate in planned, sustained, and collaborative projects Enhance their personal development, as unique individuals created by God for a purpose Demonstrate and develop the attributes of the IB learner profile in real and practical ways Grow in their interpersonal development and understand they are members of local and global communities with responsibilities towards each other and the environment Explore their interests and express their passions, personalities and perspectives Identify goals, develop strategies and determine further actions for personal growth Explore new possibilities, embrace new challenges and adapt to new roles Purposefully reflect on their experiences Student Checklist Student checklist Information and graphics borrowed from IB’s DP Creativity, Activity and Service Guide , 2015 and the IB Teacher Support Materials.
